Our love for historical sights inspired me and my wife to purchase our 150 year old farmhouse along with its fifty-six acres. We were looking for a farm to operate our children’s ministry on, which would eventually include a residential program for troubled boys. Being foster and adoptive parents, we wanted a warm and welcoming environment for these kids that feel so unwanted and unloved. Our farm needed to be a place where they felt safe and secure, loved and accepted the moment they walked through the door.
With this in mind, we thought back to all of the historical homes we had been in and thought of the things that made them feel so inviting. Our ideas ranged from the rugs, to the hearths and always the kitchen. There was something about the wear marks on all of the cupboards and furniture. The nicks and scratches from longtime use. The boards that creak when stepped on. The narrow and steep staircases, these things made it a home. These things hold silent memories of family, laughter, love and I’m quite sure many heartaches.
Even as we looked at our home, which had pretty much been condemned, we couldn’t help to notice these wonderful signs of life and warmth. The hand-hewn beams that proudly stand out and have stood for 150 years! My wife fell in love with the rounded wear patterns in the stairs and the railings that have held up for so long. These simple details are what make people drawn to our home.
This is when I opened the large barn on our property and began looking through its “junk” for old pieces of furniture and other finely crafted items. The children that were with us became excited as I uncovered and pulled out all kinds of treasures! Over time, we slowly began taking these pieces apart and did our best to replicate them, all the way down to the wear marks and nicked paint. What we had was an incredibly fine duplicate.
I shared these pieces with several of my long time costumers and they loved the replicas. Now, the trick was making them functional for today’s homes! We have accomplished this quite well and take pride in our work. So, even if you have a brand new home, we can transform it into a more historical looking home. We can create the sense of warmth that every family needs to come home to. After a hard days work nothing is more welcoming or more relaxing than taking a step back in time.
Whatever your needs, myself, our boys and the boys residing at New Creation Farm will take pride in developing the right furniture and cabinets to bring the warmth and comfort back to your home.
